Shane's Office

Shane motioned to the child sleeping in his arms. "Don't suppose there's a room she could stay in?"   Urla shook her head. "We've only just started in on the barracks last week. Only private rooms are yours and your son's."   "I'll give her mine then. Maybe I can use the small room down the hall."   "That's a storage closet, Sir."   "I'm sure you can figure it out." And before anyone else could protest, he was gone.
During Shane Lawrence's term as Grand Navarch of the Mordena, the most important decisions guiding the future of the mercenary organization were made in a broom closet.

Entries

As with most private spaces on Janikk the small common office opens into a communal covered balcony. In the case of Shane's office, the door leads to one of the larger east balconies, which also includes a large uncovered section with public seating.

Contents & Furnishings

Originally intended as a storage closet, the lower shelving of the cramped space has been removed and converted into a sturdy desk, always covered with tyrellium crystal and paperwork detailing the current efforts requiring Shane's attention. The upper shelving was left intact and houses a small collection of personal items, information crystals, and physical reminders of the past, most notably Jake's childhood exploits and a dusty storage box bearing the faded triple clawmark of Admiral Kydell. A small single bed has been fitted to cover most of the shelving, able to rotate and slide into position between the desk and the shelving when needed.

History

Originally intended as a communal janitorial and storage closet, Shane claimed the small room as his own shortly after his recruitment of Selva Blavir, allowing the young dracoling the use of his intended bedroom. A small desk and bed were added for his convenience, providing him a place to work and sleep while on Janikk until his own space was available again, but Shane never moved out.   Upon his temporary banishment to Janikk after his vengeance-fuelled assault on SAF Military Headquarters Shane continued to use the cramped closet as his living quarters, preferring to spend most of his time among the Mordena in the common spaces of Dirkkatael and the younger growing towns across the planet.

The two are very close. Jake is literally Shane's biggest priority and they're both very open about that. I love them so much.

This was such a touching article to me. I think it's amazing that you found a way to work so much storytelling into a simple closet space!

It's Shane's fault. He is so intense with everything he touches. His room would be no different.

Aaaawww <3   I wonder how much did he receive offers to reposition his office afterwards

Dec 26, 2022 20:42 by Morgan Biscup

They offered, but Shane's never been big on ceremony. And the size of an office doesn't really seem to matter when you're used to the infinite expanse of the universe always scratching at the back of your thoughts. Plus people get confused when they visit for the first time, which is an added bonus.

I can absolutely see the appeal of confusing visitors.

Thank you! I enjoy showing the smaller facets of Shane most people don't get to see.
