Janikk Educational System Course Catalog

Updated and maintained regularly, the Janikk Educational System Course Catalog provides an accurate collection of free classes available planet wide for any member of the Mordena.

Course of Study

There are no degrees, with each student able to custom tailor their classes based upon their interests and intentions for future contributions to the mercenary organization. Most pathways culminate in one or several apprenticeships before the student is set loose upon their selected portion of the universe.   Mordena are free to change their mind and their path at any point in the educational process and beyond. Many will also continue taking classes to refresh or expand their knowledge, pursue personal interests, or just pass the time.

Curriculum and Instruction

Courses are divided into four categories: Academic Foundations, Technology, Service and Vocations, and Combat and Strategy. Each boasts an assortment of studies available to both civilian and active duty personnel alike, with options in both the classroom and the field. Personalized one-on-one options, and even apprenticeships, are also available.   While many of the instructors have completed their own studies through the catalog, this is by no means a requirement. Those with useful knowledge and an interest in sharing their expertise with others are encouraged to apply. Upon completion of hands-on training in recognizing and catering to students' teaching styles, instructor hopefuls will present their desired fields of instruction for evaluation by their peers. Once approved, they are granted the opportunity to develop their own personalized classes and curriculum in their areas of expertise.   Instructors are given full control over their classrooms and catalog entries, including teaching format, class size, curriculum, grading, prerequisites, and scheduling, providing all options are finalized prior to their submission to the catalog.

Accessibility

Classes are free, and while they are often scattered across Janikk, depending upon the student and their interests, the thorough planetary portal network allows for easy travel.   The Course Catalog is publicly available, searchable at Education Offices across Janikk but also readily accessible on the planetary network.

Wow, that brings me back to 20ish years ago and I'm not sure if it is a good or a bad thing for me. It's certainly impressive worldbuilding :)

Will take several lifetimes, but they are all free. And so are resurrection clones.   All for the low low cost of being Mordena FOREVER.

Hi, I featured this article in my Read'n'Review series! Link with my feedback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msGrF0cCohc Great article, but that box was hurtful. Light font on white background, six-words long lines xD Lovable classes anyway.

Yeah... That's on the list of CSS that still needs to be altered from the default. Hoping before the end of the month, but we'll see.

This is an amazing document!!!! I really like looking at the list of all course and seeing what is available :D Is it an exhaustive list or a selection for us? I noticed that poetry was all alone in its section and wondered if it was saying something about the culture of the world or if it was just because the rest was not included.   I really like how you've chosen to present that and how well it reminds me of a real course list, with the puns included in the course titles XD

Thank you so much! Regarding your questions...   1. It's intended as a "These are the courses currently available," so not everything always offered.
2. I am still adding to it! Definitely intend to include more literature and such, and eventually a LOT more magic, but focusing on some of the other aspects at the moment. So the absence of something doesn't really mean much right now.   The Mordena are fun too because they have accepted refugees and deserters from all over, so a lot of cultures merging together but with an eye on learning from each other rather than a fear of those that are different. So there is a lot of diversity in what is of interest to them and I am enjoying an opportunity to show it all.

I read through all the list and I found the choices of what was selected very interesting, like the big focus on ethics :D   I've just watched Damparo's review. I also personally find the use of the "document" option not so friendly to navigate vs putting everything in the article, although it works well with the framing of the article. I think being able to have a table of content and headers to jump around and navigate between the sections would help.   Another thought I had when reading and forgot to first add is how long would the course last? One full semester? With each course chosen being held everyday during that time?

A ToC to jump around in is on my list to do. I need to learn the bookmarks. Was actually planning on doing that after I get a chance on PC.   Course length depends on the teacher. Most would be a semester, but the accelerated ones would be less and the Apprenticeships could be more depending on the aptitude of the student. This would be something the student would learn when looking deeper into them.

Really beautiful idea for explaining a culture without just dropping a bunch of descriptive text! As a professor (and former undergrad student who poured over the course catalog) I can't help but love it, and you've hit the tone right on the head. It's inspirational, too, since one of the worlds I'm working on is an urban fantasy university setting--I never thought to come up with a course catalog or program of study, exactly, but it now seems like such an obvious next step. Amazing!

So glad it helped! I had thought about writing an article just talking about how education worked, but honestly this was more fun and I think paints a better picture.   Good luck with your own writing! That sounds like a fun project.

D-did you seriously write a whole student guideline book with courses, ECTS and what not? Holy cow, this I call true dedication!   Especially as I can see this writing style in an official student guideline booklet >.>
