weighted blanket

Weighted blankets are crafted to apply additional pressure on objects and individuals beneath them. The most versatile options include Telekinesis, allowing the user to change settings for different weight profiles depending upon their needs, although purely mechanical options relying on glass beads or heavy fabrics are also available. Most are constructed using Fibramancy to improve the strength of the fabrics.

Effects of Usage

Weighted blankets are credited with providing a calming effect in many users, grounding them and soothing anxieties, much like the benefits received from a hug. It is worthwhile to note that this is not a universal effect, as others feel stifled by the added weight, and some may even experience muscle strain.   Research is currently ongoing into the use of weighted blankets for medical conditions. The blankets' effects on individuals with specific mental diagnoses have yielded clear results, yielding classifications where the blankets have proven helpful and others where they additional weight has proven surprisingly upsetting. Physical conditions are largely unaffected by the blankets, aside from cases where added pressure would be downright dangerous in its own right.   Research into therapies for magical conditions such as Malady or misattunement remain inconclusive, as arcanologists admit they have not yet been able to rule out the placebo effect.

Alternative Uses

While most commonly used as a sleeping assist, weighted blankets have also been found useful to help loosely secure items in low gravity areas. High-end telekinetic blankets can even be adjusted to provide a traditional gravitational field, although manufacturers warn that this particular usage of their blankets should be limited to an hour at most.

I adore mine.   It's not as adjustable as this one, of course! But still. It's amazing.

I want one

These are actually things you can buy in real life. I have one and I love it. The recommendation is to go with a blanket that weights no more than 10% of your body weight, for safety purposes. (Mine is heavier but I am a weighted blanket fiend.)

I love my weighted blanket. I would love one I could make heavier at will. :D

Oh gosh, me, too.   And then also make lighter, so it can go in the washer.

I didn't expect a blanket article, but honestly it was a pleasant breakdown. Love how you tie Vazdimets magic into the production!

I love writing about the magical mundane. They're not core articles or anything, but they're fun!
