Thayer Family

<My father always said that relying on others is a weakness, that true Thayers forge their own way in the Confederation. He wanted me and my sister to be the best, but to do so off our own backs.>
Sub-Lieutenant Thayer Kester, Tempting the TAG
Native to the Confederation territory of Celereth, the Thayer Family own several large tyrellium mines across the planet. Whilst not a powerful Family, they have enough resources to hold their own in the minefield that is Sparnelli politics. They value independence above all else, often eschewing help to figure things out on their own. They consider asking for help a weakness, though are not blind to the value of political allies.

Structure

The Thayer Family is made up of a main family and several branch families, with each branch being responsible for one of the Family's mines. The main Family is ruled by a parriarch - known as a Family Chair in the rest of the Confederation - and each branch is ruled by a family head. The heads report directly to the parriarch in all matters.

Public Agenda

The Thayers put a lot of importance into looking strong and unwavering. This is especially true when it comes to outsiders, but many apply this to other members of the Family as well. Asking for help is looked down upon, and a lot of effort is put in to appearing to do everything alone - even if that is not truly the case.   This even extends to the children of the Thayer Family. They are discouraged from asking for help from an early age, meaning young children are often walking around with their clothes on backwards.

Assets

The Thayer Family own six large tyrellium mines on the planet of Celereth. The mines are underground, much like the rest of the planet's infrastructure. Due to this, Celereth's tyrellium veins are rich and plentiful, making the planet a major exporter.   Though the Thayers are not currently the planet's largest exporter of tyrellium, they pride themselves on the quality of their raw material. They are currently surveying potential sites for three new mines.   They also own three large tyrellium refineries, where they transform around a third of their raw ore into purer, more expensive metal.

I love the notion that you can tell a Thayer child by the fact that they have their clothes on backwards.
