"I told you she'd stop if she learned the hard way," Aunt Eupa teased ten-year-old Brina. She kept running ahead, then back to the family, then ahead again as they made their way to the inlet to swim. The water was perfect for it, the sun was high and hot, and the whole family was home and free for the time. Daemon even came along.
"Shut up, Aunt Eupa!" cried Brina indignantly.
"You refused to stop going to the damn river 'til you fell the hell in, didn't you!" argued Aunt Eupa. "I'm just glad you lived, do you even know what your daddy would have done if you hadn't? We'd only just now be getting him to stop drinking long enough to piss outside the house!"
"Eupa!" cried Ro-Ro, who had no intention of swimming and never did. She hated her fur getting that kind of wet. "Stop being vile!"
"I'm not! You gonna tell me he would actually bother getting up to piss? He barely does that now!"
"You're being gross, Eupa, stop!" laughed Brotz.
"Shit, like she didn't come to us pissing on herself, too!" Eupa laughed, and she broke into a run. Brina saw her coming and barely got the chance to get going herself before Aunt Eupa's chase became a real one.
"I'mma get you, kid!"
"Noooo!"
