The many buildings of the city slowly turned into countryside and copious forests coated with snow. Of course, it was as dangerous having a Fireos in the city, as it was out in nature. But, her parents cared more about her and their safety rather than the woods, and when they heard she could attend the undergraduate school for students who weren’t prodigies that might get accepted into the university, well, they couldn’t have been more pleased in their life.
She wasn’t like normal fireoses, she liked to think, who were selfish, great at hiding, sleek and weasel-like in appearance and tone, and somehow could not be caught by anyone. But she still inherited one of the common traits. Believing they were better than anyone else. No, not even her, one of the most docile and not-a-coward fireos couldn’t escape that key trait. The one that made you a fireos, excluding your powers. Oh, and being full of herself. She just couldn’t help it!
“Wow…” She breathed as they crossed into the marvellous road surrounded by trees to Woodsville, the village next to the Woodlands University. And she was going to a woodlands university! She hadn’t had the chance to even see trees until she was seven! Erin, a girl sitting in front of her glared at her, giving her a look that said ‘Be quiet! Some of us are trying to sleep!’
She shook her head proudly and looked away from the window. In her secondary, everyone called her the Queen of the School. So she’d have to reestablish her rule, and evict the current Queen from the throne. What was she thinking? She wasn’t a crazy person, she just got used to living in high school hierarchy. Maybe she could be Queen of the freshers? After all, she was going to be one.
But this was an entirely new country, England, while her family lived in Las Vegas, out in America. It was true that there were many people at this school from all over the world, but she still worried that she would be the weirded-out freak of the school, like the extremely smart child at school who had been called names, like ‘weirdo’ and ‘nerd’. But that child had still been their valedictorian, though she had no support from her peers.
Finally, the bus rolled into the University parking lot, and she stepped out and on to the lawn. She took a couple of selfies and uploaded them onto her social media platform.
A teacher ushered them into a building, out of the snow, up a level, and into a large auditorium. She yawned loudly, making it clear that she did not want to be doing this. A girl in the uniform stepped forward to one of the lecterns. She was surprisingly small for a 24-year old, at least, that was how old a fourth-year was supposed to be. Though this school was known for it’s students that not only exceed expectations, but fly high above them. Hmmm… That girl looked really young.
She cleared her throat and said rather squeakily, “Welcome orientation students, my name is Dawn, and I’m the Fourth-year Head Girl, and leader of this year’s joining committee. I recognise a few faces that failed last year, hello Erin!” Erin blushed profusely and shrank in her seat, “Anyway, please stand at the seat your number is, Amber, 1. Erin, 2. Freida, 3…”
