Spellcasting. The Shadowmaw Jaguar casts one of the below spells, requiring no verbal, somatic, or material components, and using Constitution as the spellcasting ability (Save DC 14):
Pass Without Trace
Darkness
Enraged Spell: Invisibility
Misty Step
Enrage. When a Shadowmaw's mate or it's offspring are killed within it's line of sight, or it is reduced to half HP (50 or lower), the Shadowmaw Jaguar becomes enraged, gaining access to Enraged Actions, and the following traits:
Jaguar's Pounce. When the Shadowmaw Jaguar moves at least 20 ft. straight toward a creature and hits with it's Rend attack, that creature must succeed on a DC 13 strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If a creature the Jaguar is attacking is prone, the Jaguar can make one Rend attack against the prone target as a bonus action. Additionally if the Shadowmaw Jaguar is between 10 and 30 feet above a creature and falls on them to attack, it takes no fall damage, gains advantage on it's next attack action against that creature, and deals an additional 10 (3d6) slashing or piercing damage on it's rend attacks on it's turn. This falling attack is considered moving 20 ft. for the Jaguar's Pounce ability which may knock the creature prone.
Keen Smell. The Jaguar has advantage on wisdom (perception) checks that rely on smell
Shadow Sight. The ShadowMaw can see through magical darkness within 120 feet of itself.
Multiattack. The Shadowmaw Jaguar makes 2 attacks of it's choice
Rend. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d10 +4) piercing or slashing damage, and an additional 3 (1d6) Necrotic Damage.
Dark Shard. Ranged Spell Attack: +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d6) Necrotic Damage
Increased Multiattack. While Enraged the shadowmaw Jaguar makes 3 attacks of it's choice, rather then it's normal 2.
Mark. The Shadowmaw marks one creature as it's prey, granting it advantage and a bonus 1d6 necrotic damage against it's marked target.
Some notable shadowmaws may have lairs, which could be an interesting adventure in a oneshot, mini-campaign, or full campaign. This Set of Lair rules and descriptions could be used optionally for such a situation. (WIP)
Apex Beasts are at the top of their natural evolution. Shadowmaws are one example, as they show how nature can create beautiful yet deadly creatures. Apex Beasts are not modified by mortal touch, they are a binalization of natures evolution, though finalization is loose when nature is ever changing.
Shadowmaw is quite literal when refering to this Apex Jaguar. (WIP)
Jungles, rain forests, tropical, and sub tropical climates make for great homes for Jaguars. They prefer Humid, and warm locations, preferably near lakes or rivers due to their natural ability to swim.
